For non-Americans: this is actually accurate and reflects how Americans understand ourselves and regional identities. These aren’t official labels, but they’re not totally made up either.
Also for everyone going “why is the Midwest so far east, it’s not west enough”
Americans started using that term in the 1800s, before a lot of the western states were established. the “midwest” was midway between the more established states and the western territories. It’s a historical term that stuck, not one that reflects the placement of the area relative to contemporary borders.
For non-Americans: this map is NOT accurate and does NOT reflect how Americans understand ourselves and regional identities because upstate New York does NOT extend that far south and I WILL die on this hill and all other Americans will also die on THEIR hills (in whatever region they believe, perhaps erroneously, them to be in)
